below is a brief paragraph about swiss modernism and its influences on graphic design 

Although these are all iconic leaders of modernist art they did not heavily influence the world of graphic design. What I would consider to be the most influential part of the modernism movement would be the international typographic style that is also known as Swiss style. The Swiss Style emerged in the 1920’s from a variety of country’s the style heavily draws upon the characteristics of fictional layouts, the use of grid, the use of sans-serif typefaces and flush left text. Instead of illustrative images or photographs the swiss style used shapes in compotation’s that represented emotions or relevant images to represent the topic of the work. Swiss modernism was very different to everything else in the modernism movement, it simplified the form and emphasized the function of design of which was part of the key teaching from the Bauhaus, which was crucial to the modernist movement.

Below is development of my essay were i am summarising the modernism movement.

Modernism started as a reaction to modernity, the world was developing so fast with

its new technology which was “on a mass scale for mass consumption” (modernism a graphic guid) that modernism started as a “deliberate rejection of the styles of the past” (tate) this made people think differently about how they created and designed things, it was “innovation and experimentation in forms, materials and techniques in order to create artworks” (tate) that reflected the modern society that the world was turning into. There was no official start to modernism it was and has always been about as it is a reaction to modern life and new technology, “the absolute sovereignty of modernism is ushered in around 1910 by a rupture with the classical and traditional vocabulary[..] the reign is consolidated after world war one”

The ultimate reign was because people wanted a new world and started to reject the past which was full of violence and horrors that had emerged after the war.

What are the influences of modernism in graphic design today?

In this essay I will be discussing the topic of is modernism in relation to

graphic design and the relevance of modernism to graphic design today. The essay aims to cover briefly the history of the modernism, touch upon key leaders in the movement, common stylistic characteristics of modernism and also their influences on graphic design today, as well as briefly analysing modernist graphic design work to pick out key characteristics used. After discussing these topics in great detail I will conclude this essay by answering the question of what are the influences of modernism in graphic design today with supporting evidence that has been discussed throughout the essay.
